Want to get price of local people in whole Indonesia? Use kitas!
As a tourist you might notice that local people have much lower prices of almost everything – from fruit at the market to entrance fees to interesting places. This is what you can do about the entrance fees – use kitas.
The basic information is that if you want to get local prices of entrance fees, you have to provide the information you are kind of special person eg. long term visitor, student or long term worker. You can provide this by showing your ”kitas”. Kitas is special kind of visa for foreign people. We lived in indonesia for almost one year so we had our own legal student kitas. But from using it we can say some interesting facts useful for you.
The good information is that Indonesia is really chaotic country and nobody knows exactly how the real documents should look like. The document has no holograms or any other super modern security parts. At most places you need to show the card without any other reference, ID from school or the company you work for. You just come to the ticket booth show your kitas card and they give you local price. Simple as that. In some cases they asked us to show our student cards (Ijen crater) but if we didn’t have it with us (eg. forgotten at home) nothing bad happens – we bought tickets for the standard foreigners price. No police, no problems.
So how to get the kitas card?
Well, there are many legal ways. We heard abut people they searched at internet for some higher quality scans, changed their name, photo etc. and printed it from both sides. Then laminated it so nobody could really check it in details.
Here is how it looks like: kitas-example.
It seems like cheating so think about it twice before doing it.
