Visit Huay Tung Tao Lake near Chiang Mai, Thailand
Huay Tung Tao Lake near Chiang Mai is popular destination of local people as well as tourist looking for some nice easy tour on bikes outskirts of Chiang Mai. If you want to visit, the entrance fee is 50 baht. Not much, but for the same price you can have a nice lunch, so why not to avoid it?
To be honest, the place is really nice, well kept and it seems that those 50 bahts are used for maintaining the place. Therefore we believe that in this case is worth to pay the entrance fee. You can read about it eg. here or here.
However, this web is about low cost traveling, so here you have the way how to pay zero baht. There are two ways to enter.
Way 1: Use the bike track
The easiest way is to use parallel bike track that starts near main road from Chiang Mai. This bike track is separated activity field from the lake but can be easily connected. This track passes both two ticket booths and leads you directly t the lake. Use the bike track and when reaching the lake, just turn to it. Maybe you will have to look for some shortcut across the lake or use the usually closed gate, but it is not a big deal.
Way 2: Visit the nearby village
The second way goes through the village. Just before the first ticket booth turn left and navigate yourself to the very far point of the village (see the map). From there you can find small forest shortcut leading to the main asphalt road around the lake. When you reach it you are in.
The map is from OpenStreetMaps, I use it with Maps.me. Read more here about the apps I use in my smartphone while traveling.
